Chair - Dewi Ab Iowerth
Dewi has been asked to support Bill Bingham and the Waverley Athletics Club (WAC) in its transition from Waverley Harriers to WAC. Dewi has 3 children, all of whom have been very active athletes with Waverley for the past 12 years. Dewi is proud to be able to claim that all three of his children have represented and been victorious with Surrey U.13s at the National Finals.
Dewi accepted Bill’s invitation to be Chair because, having three children who are all very keen athletes and who now support Bill with junior coaching programmes, meant he will be involved with Waverley Athletics for a period of 12 years or more and so was keen to offer something back to the Club in return for the great experiences and opportunities that the Club have given his children.
Since starting the transition to Waverley Athletics Club, his passion for and interest in the athletics provision to the local community has only increased. Dewi is keen to increase the profile and provision to the older teenage and young adult community in the form of more active participation at local and national events. His main observation of WAC is seeing such a strong relationship between the children & coaches and where there is such a passionate community of parents who are so keen to support the club and their children in their athletics ambition.
Dewi has previously been a Governor of Moss Lane Infants School in Godalming and a football coach at Farncombe Youth FC. By profession Dewi has always been involved with the energy sector. He spent 16 years with Centrica (British Gas) and then 4 years with BP, but has been in the Clean Energy sector for the past 12 years helping industry meet their climate change ambitions.
